Released to the public domain
Overview
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TAA provides a way for you to watch the activity of your phone during your
absence. Asuming you've got a Hayes (tm) compatible modem.
Every time your phone rings, TAA makes a log entry stating the numer of
rings, the date and time of the call. With the built-in logfile browser
you can see for yourself what has been going on. The two modes to exit the
program make it as flexible as possible. The first is manual control,
pressing <CTRL><C> does the work. The second mode is the 'timedeactiva-
tion' mode wich means, the program automaticaly exits at a specified time.
This may be convenient when running the program in some event (RA/D'bridge
/Frontdoor etc.).
There is another major application method for TAA. When you're the proud
owner of an answering machine, TAA may be usefull for you if you want
to monitor incomming call's and the specific time people called. Modern
anwering machine all take care of this thereselves (time/date stamping)
but if yours doesn't YOU CAN USE TAA!
Running TAA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TAA is supplied in archived form. You must have noticed because you're
reading this document so you dearchived it. If you didn't get the TAA
package in archived form (ARJ/ZIP etc.) I strongly suggest you don't use
TAA at this moment and try to get an archived version of TAA. The reason
for this recommendation is that archived files usualy are checked for vi-
russes and are automaticaly processed so you've got the most chance of
using the 'original' Holland Software Systems distribution-package. This
may precause you from lots of troubles. You can contact us if you don't
know where to get a valid HSS archive. Ofcourse you can always contact
a HSS support BBS (see HSSSUP.BBS document) in order to get your infor-
mation.
Assuming you dearchived the package you now should have the following
files in your directory:
- TAA.EXE 47969 14-02-92 0:49
- TAA.DOC 10445 14-02-92 0:57
- HSSSUP.BBS 1779 14-02-92 0:46
- TAA.HIS 361 14-02-92 0:56
- TAA.CFG *
- TAA.LOG *
*) TAA.CFG/TAA.LOG have not to be in this directory, they will be if you
have allready taken a look at TAA.EXE, they are automaticaly created.
If one of the above filedates, filesizes or other data of the files
does not apply on what you experiance, DON'T USE IT! First contact us
or one of the HSS support BBS's.
Usage of TAA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Execute TAA as follows:
TAA [</T=hh:mm> </S=ON|OFF>]
/T=hh:mm eg. /T=10:33 will execute TAA and deactivate on 10:33h.
/S=ON or /S=OFF will subsequently en- or disable sound, overriding the set-
tings in TAA.CFG.
IF you don't supply a /T= command, TAA will be activated upon pressing
<CTRL><C>.
Once TAA is running you have several options wich can be used during a
TAA session.
Press <CTRL><M> for all available menu options. All option will now be dis-
cussed:
<CTRL><B> Browse logfile
------------------------
If TAA is able to find your logfile it now will be displayed by a
'browser'. A browser is a program wich displays a certain file wich can
not be altered. If it could be, the program would be a EDITOR. Once in
this browser you can use the common keys to browse through the file (eg.
PgDn/PgUp, Home/End, <CTRL><PgUp>/<CTRL><PgDn>).
Pressing <ESC> will disable the browser.
<CTRL><M> This Menu
-------------------
Always displays all options available at the moment.
<CTRL><R> Reset calls-counter
-----------------------------
The calls-counter on the TAA monitorwindow always displays the amount
of calls made from execution of TAA. You can reset this figure down to
zero using this option. The reset will be reported in the logfile and
the amount of calls made upon the reset will be also.
<CTRL><T> Set time-exit
-----------------------
If you don't specify the /T=hh:mm option on the commandline, TAA will
only exit when <CTRL><C> is pressed. In case you decide time-exit should
be activated, you don't have to exit TAA en restart it with the /T -
option. Using this option you are asked in the minitorwindow for a exit-
time. You specify the hours and minutes including the ':' character.
If you don't specify a time, time-exit won't be activated.
Configuring TAA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are also a few commands wich can/mus be entered in the TAA.CFG con-
figurationfile.
Run TAA.EXE without any commandline-parameters. As you will notice you get
a WARNING message from the programming telling you TAA.CFG can not be
found. This is what we want, beceause now -when you press <CTRL><C>- you
will notice TAA has created a TAA.CFG file by itself.
Take your favorite editor and edit TAA.CFG. There are several things you
can alter, they all will be discribed below.
LOGPATH - enter the full path including filename of the logfile you
will be using (eg. LOGPATH C:\LOGS\TAA.LOG). If you only
specify the filename of the logfile, it will be created in
the directory from where you started TAA.EXE
COM - enter the comport number of your modem. Valid are
comport's 1 through 8 (eg. COM 2).
BPS - enter the modem to comport BPS rate. If you have a
'locked' speed, enter the locked-speed (eg. BPS 2400).
DATA - enter the number of databits used for communication with
your modem (eg. DATA 8).
STOP - enter the number of stopbits used for communication with
your modem (eg. STOP 1).
PARITY - enter parity used for communication with your modem (eg.
PARITY N). Valid values are N(one), E(ven), O(dd).
RING - enter the method wich will be used by the software to
detect the phone is 'ringing'.
H = hardware detect (RI-signalline) * most used *.
S = software detect, TAA monitors the modem and triggers
on the receipt of the Hayes (tm) RING - return.
You always should try to use the H - method first. If this
doesn't work for you, try the S - method (eg. RING H).
INTERVAL - enter the interval in seconds between two ring's wich will
be used to detect the caller has hang-up the phone. In The
Neterlands a 5 sec. interval will do just fine. For all
you foreigners: experiment (eg. INTERVAL 5)!
MAXRINGSEC - enter the maximum number of seconds a single RING may
last. If the RI-signalline on the COMport lasts longer
than the specified amount of seconds there's probably a
hardware problem and TAA should exit. (eg. MAXRINGSEC 10).
SAVESCREEN - enter the number of inactivity-seconds before the screen
must be 'nucked'. Once a key is pressed or a 'ring' is
detected, the TAA window reappears. Providing a 0 disables
the screensave-feature (eg. SAVESCREEN 30).
SETSAVECHAR - enter the character to be used by the screensaver to dwirl
over the screen (eg. SETSAVECHAR '.'). The character has
to be between single-quote characters. If you don't wan't
a character to be used by the screensaver, use a under-
score as SETSAVECHAR (eg. SETSAVECHAR '_').
DISABLESOUND - using this command get's you in 'silent mode'. The soft-
ware will only BEEP on errors (eg. DISABLESOUND).
Placing a ; before this command can be read as DO NOT
disablesound.
When you don't specify one of the above commands, standard values will
be used by the software. These standard values are:
LOGPATH taa.log
COM 2
BPS 2400
DATA 8
STOP 1
PARITY N
RING H
INTERVAL 5
MAXRINGSEC 10
SAVESCREEN 30
SETSAVECHAR '.'
;DISABLESOUND
Once you've edited the TAA.CFG configurationfile to your needs, you can
place it in any directory which is in your PATH statement or the home
directory of TAA.

The taa.exe file has been pre-compressed using PKlite(tm). You don't
need bothering how to extract the file beceause you don't have to!
PKlite reduced the .COM/.EXE files but it remains executable. If you
